Navigating Through Change

Business Issue - In today’s business climate, change is unavoidable. Continually changing external market forces and internal performance requirements demand that organizations learn how to effectively engage in and adapt to ongoing change in order to survive and thrive. When a specific change is already in progress or there is one about to be launched, managers need a specific set of competencies in order to guide their people through the change process so that the benefits of the change can be realized.

Omega Performance’s Solution - Navigating Through Change—a one-day interactive session—equips managers at all levels with the competencies needed to lead their team toward commitment to the change. Participants gain the self-awareness required to personally identify their own position in Omega Performance’s Change Readiness States so that they can serve as a role model for their direct reports. They build skills in communicating the need for change, involving others, and creating a supportive environment—all of which are key competencies in leading others through change. Participants leave the session true to their “authentic selves” with the skills for how to position a needed change with their people and for how to lead the way from their current state to a commitment to change.

What Is Included

Participants engage in the following learning activities during Navigating Through Change:

  • Getting to know where they personally fit into Omega’s Change Readiness States.
  • Working with a variety of case studies that illustrate Change Management Best Practices:
    • Modeling Authenticity & Flexibility
    • Communicating for Positive Momentum
    • Creating a Safe Environment for Risk-Taking
    • Promoting Ownership
    • Celebrating Progress
    • Identifying typical missteps in communicating change and identifying what could be done to remedy those.
  • Planning how to implement a Model for Communicating Change and practicing how to do so:
    • Explain the change and its drivers
    • Be authentic about benefits and challenges
    • Explore reactions and implications
    • Gain commitment to next steps

There is a follow-up to the Navigating Through Change session in which participants conduct one or more meetings with their teams to:

  • Communicate the reasons for the change from the perspective of the organization, the team, each individual, and the customer.
  • Solicit team member reactions and concerns, concentrating on listening and understanding.
  • Introduce the Change Readiness States and increase the self-awareness of their people.
  • Involve the team in planning how to address concerns and effectively integrate the change into daily routines.

Delivery Options

Navigating Through Change is delivered via a one-day session by an Omega Performance senior facilitator and certified skill practice coaches to assist in guiding the afternoon skill practices. The skill practice coaches can be the organization’s internal coaches or additional Omega facilitators.
