Strategic Team Meetings

Business Issue - Managers are responsible for planning and conducting team meetings that foster speed to performance. Strategic team meetings, on a weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis, are a powerful tool for focusing teams on key business results and on the activities and skills that will produce those results. The challenge is for managers to consistently lead team meetings that are focused on the most strategic business topics and add value for the staff who report to them.

Omega Performance’s Solution - Strategic Team Meetings is a one-day learning experience which equips managers to step back and focus their meetings on topics strategically linked to the results their teams must produce. By the end of the day, participants have chosen the meeting topics that are most critical for their teams in the upcoming month/quarter.

In addition, managers practice using Omega’s FOCUS meeting facilitation framework to conduct a 30-minute meeting that is evaluated by their peers. This skill practice helps managers to lead interactive meetings back on the job that engage their teams and focus them on the skilled activities that drive results.

What Is Included

During Strategic Team Meetings, participants focus on developing the skills and techniques needed to conduct successful strategic meetings.  Each participant completes an action plan to transfer skills from the workshop to their job environment.  Participants commit to completing their plan of strategic meeting topics for their team in the next month or quarter, and to using Omega’s FOCUS framework in each of those meetings.

Upon completing Strategic Team Meetings, participants are able to:

  • Identify the strengths and challenges of their current team meetings.
  • Describe the types of team meeting purposes which focus a team on results, activities, skills, and knowledge in Omega’s Performance Pyramid.
  • Analyze their scorecard results to identify where they and their team need to focus in the Performance Pyramid during the next month/quarter.
  • Outline the next month's/quarter's team meeting agenda to close gaps identified on their scorecard.
  • Plan and facilitate team meetings using Omega's FOCUS framework and key skill practice techniques.
  • Build action plans during team meetings which unite the team and meet Omega’s ACTion Planning standards for effective action planning (that the action plan items are Accountable, Concrete, and Time-specific).

Sustainment Skill Building

Strategic Team Meetings is followed in 30-45 days by a webinar on high-impact skill building techniques that managers can use in their meetings to build sales and service skills. One of the core tenets of Omega’s approach to sales and service meetings is to include a skill practice component. It is, after all, skilled activities which produce results.

During this webinar, participants learn how to prepare for and implement effective demonstrations, interactive skill practices, and powerful fish bowl practices into their regular team meetings. Using gaps in results that they and their team members have identified since the workshop, they create a Skill Development Plan to take back and implement in their next team meeting. They will leave the webinar with the tools they need to begin using these skill development techniques to improve their team’s results.
